Course Description:

This is a year long course which will develop a students interest and knowledge level in the areas of Botany. This class will center around Basic Botany, Plant Science and Plant Physiology, an Soil Science as well as direct applications of these principles in and around the North Adams-Jerome Community.

Instructional Delivery:

This course will be labeled as an “on-line” course in that all of the materials needed to complete the course will be available to you on this, the North Adams-Jerome Agriscience web site.

This is primarily a lecture/discussion format of learning. Lectures are in the form of Powerpoint slide shows, worksheets accompany each lecture, and in certain cases projects (papers and activities), may also accompany the lecture.

Grading Scale:

A  =  93-100%     A- = 90-92%     B+= 86-89%     B  = 83-85%

B- =  80-82%       C+ = 75-79%    C  = 72-74%     C- = 69-71%

D+=  66-69%       D   = 63-65%    D- = 59-62%     E  = < 58%

Semester Grades

40% of the final grade is taken from the first marking period.

40% of the final grade is taken from the second marking period.

20% of the final grade is based on the final exam score.

TOTAL 100%

Marking Period Grades

40% of M.P. grade will be based on test scores.

30% of M.P. grade will be based on homework.

20% of M.P. grade will be based on W,L,I Collection***

10% of grade will be based on class participation.

The W, L, I collection or Weed, Leaf, Insect collection will be due once per semester.       Each student must complete one of the collections the first semester and one collection (not the same type of collection the second semester.  Guidelines for the project can be found under the hyperlink entitled Botany Projects listed below.  Note that students can elect to turn in the project in any of the 4 marking periods, however must turn in one per semester.  Students will NOT be counted against in the opposite marking periods in which they turn in their projects.

Participation Grades:

Agriscience class like all science classes has many activities which can not be made up therefore 10% of each marking periods grade will be based on class participation.

Participation means...Coming to class prepared and ready to go to work; Working well with other students and not disrupting class; Being on time for class; Following the classroom rules as shown below.

Classroom Conduct:

Consult the North Adams-Jerome High School handbook for classroom conduct, however discipline is very important and activities that are NOT conducive to the learning environment of students will NOT be tolerated.

Absences:

If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to ask what items were covered and the assignments which were assigned for that day or days missed.  Hopefully having the information for you online will alleviate any problems when you, the student are absent.
